You guys must be too young to remember when kids started taking parents to court and trying to divorce them back in the late 80s/early 90s.

You'll notice that the article in the first post is for Canada. This sort of weirdness is much more common in Europe than in the US, that's one reason it hasn't been in the papers here for 20 years.
