other countrys are free without spending so much. and if u say we have more enemys then ask why do people hate us. Sry but I beleive in free education/healthcare over spending 300 billion on a new nifty jet..[quote]

LOL...other countries are not America... America has the latest and the best military technology.
Question Jedi do you think the world would come to our aid if we had a crisis and we could not help ourselves? Hell no ... I don't think so, America has to stay on the cutting edge military wise and technology wise. China and Russia hate America and they see a world without America if you can't see that then you are blind. Also here a little tip for ya... logistically America is pretty much the only super power that could use it's military to deliver aid and help to other counties that are in need. Other countries hate America's freedom we have to keep or guard up if we let that guard down then someone out there will destroy us by any means possible including economically. We have fought a few Proxy wars with the other two super powers in the world... China and Russia if you think that they are just gonna kiss up and play nice you are wrong. It comes down to super powers in this world and there are three USA, China and Russia. Russia may be down right now but Russia is on it's way back and it's alignment with China is only by means of convenience.

Also I would like to add this food for thought what happens when China no longer needs America to sell goods to? What happens when China becomes a consumer nation like America? What happens when China's people can afford to purchase all the goods made in their country?
Super Powers... other countries are free with less money for the fact that they are not a SUPER POWER of the world.

First I can't stand how big the government has become and while the military is important the amount the US spends cannot be justified. While freedom is not free, what is freedom if you have seniors eating pet food because they can't afford anything else or the poor going without health care. Many are in that situation because of choices they made but many are not. A government that can invest in war should also invest in their people.

I used to be a hard core conservative and capitalist but after the recent corruption in the business world I would shutter if the government was not there to keep them somewhat in check. My wife works in compensation for a tier one automotive supplier. The stories about the increases (huge) in bonus and salary for the top tier of management while the company loses millions. The common employee are rewarded with raise and bonus elimination. From her conversations with other companies HR employees this practice is common place. I don't believe all men (or women) are created equal anymore.

Now back to the original question. The idea has some merits but funding it would be painful.

Amen. Couldn't have said it better. Never have supported tax cuts for corporations or the wealthy. Never will, either.

I don't much care for seniors eating pet food because they weren't smart enough or didn't work hard enough to put down some savings for emergencies.

no I don't think governments should hold the hands of their citizens. this is the home of the free, not the "we'll pick you up if you fall."

the US can't support everyone, it'll collapse first.

personally, I'd cuz ALL foreign aid to countries who aren't staunch allies, and start dumping that money into the national debt. we're spending way too much money on ridiculous wastes of money.

but yes the clintons are evil.

I'm not saying Dems are evil, government welfare for seniors/the poor is evil, or that we have a massive military budget that may not be sustainable in the long term.

However, the idea of a baby bond that will cost $20B a year (more if the birth rate goes up) with massive funding problems already?... Nobody wants to raise taxes because they want to get (re-)elected.

Anyhow, health care is dicey. The current system may be hokey sometimes, but I can get an MRI if I need it. In Canada, you get put on an 9 month wait list if you have an urgent need. Many people die on those lists.

Social Security is a dicey issue, big business has screwed a lot of people (see Enron), but with the baby boomers, the current S.S. system looks like it will have massive funding issues...

Free education is another issue. The current system with state schools, scholarships, federal & need based financial aid + loans seems to be working...

The UK doesn't fair any better with socialized medicine, you still have a payroll deduction and it is for partial coverage, more and more things are not being covered so you have to pay out of pocket.
Our system may have it's issues but it still works better than any state provided health care system out there now.

Be sure to read all the way to the end!

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries, then
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin ,
Tax his gra ve,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
Upon his tomb,
" Taxes drove me to my doom..."

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Considering there are still countries that still owe us money from WW2 loans or that we give billions of dollars in aid to these pricks every year I think we can have a little leeway with our debts.
