Upcoming mice. Just in time for xmas :)

Postby roadrunner » Sat Sep 17, 2005 3:04 pm

Logitech has a couple of new gaming mice that are getting great feedback. The G5 looks really nice and since I am back playing mostly FPS it is time to hangup the cordless mouse. I was using a MX1000 which was not very suited for a FPS. Too heavy and noticeable lag. I am using my old intellimouse until I pickup a G5. The only thing I don't understand is why they only have one side button. The MX1000 had a bunch of extra buttons which was very nice and the one thing I will miss.

Check out a Tom's Hardare review of mice here

I use the mx510 laser, very precise. I'm interested to see what the newest offering is in the line though.

Yeah those mice sound great, I was trying to decide between both of them myself. The no-memory cord the G5 has sounds good but I'm skeptical... the G7 would definitely solve that. The G7 comes with 2 batteries, one of which charges while you use the other. Sounds good to me!

Not sure if I just had a bad MX1000 but there was a very noticeable lag. It could also have been going into sleep mode but I think this time around I will give up a little convenience and go for the corded. The data transfer rate is insane.

My CE teacher has a MX1000 on the server in his classroom and it works great. It's just heavier than my mouse... But mines more sensitive

I use a "Micro Center" optical mouse that cost me 7$ and it works better than any of the 100$ plus mice I have owned or any gaming mouse I have ever used. Sometime quality can be found in the most unlikely places. (Oh and it's super light too)

Ordered my G5 today from Newegg along with a Samsung HD. Will post my review after I get a chance to put it through it paces.

I like the logitechs. I have a 5 button wireless optical that is super sensitive and very light. It works great for Mechwarrior and Quake 3, but I haven't tried it on PS yet.

I played a few hours of Battlefield 2 last night with the G5 and I can safely say that it is by far the best "gaming" mouse I have used.

Its glides across the desktop. Not sure if this is because it is new or the extra large contact areas but the movement is very smooth.

Absolutely no stepping. The path appears smooth and accurate to the movement. I was practicing sniping with it and found that before I would try to aim for the head and but with the G5 it felt like I could aim for an ear if I wanted.

The cord is clothed wrap and not like the typical one. I used to tape my mouse cord to the back of the desk so that it would not tug this cord see to hold some shape and give enough slack so I did not have to tape.

At first, I though the weights were a gimmick but found I like the ability to adjust the weight of the mouse. I have played with mice that were either too heavy or light. You will get used to it but I can say its nice making the mouse fit me instead of the other way around.

Adjusting the DPI on the fly is neat but not sure if I will use it much. I found that it was getting me killed more while playing around with it but I did find it nice to adjust the DPI down when I was flying the helo. I could also see that snipers would like it plus vehicle drivers (they could adjust on the fly to make the turret rotate faster).

My biggest complaint is the lack of additional buttons. Two or three would have been better than the one they provided. They quote six buttons but I have never considered the wheel side to side viable for game play.
