Don't use this company for your yearly "free" credit check. I just got charged 12 dollars because I didn't cancel a membership that I didn't know I had. Then you cannot cancel the damn thing online, you have to call them. So after waiting 10 min for them to pick up the phone (you have to pick the cancel membership option so they know to leave you waiting) This woman asks me for my info and she puts me on hold while she brings up my account. This takes 5 more minutes of being on hold, she then comes back on and says she is still bringing it up, so back on hold for 5 more min for me. And the whole time I'm on hold they are playing this violin music that is so out of tune that it hurts. So then she gets back on and asks for more info and then I go back on hold. So after a few more mintues she comes back and starts with the offers. So I say I just wanna cancel the account and she is going on and on, so I finally snap and yell at her to cancel the goddamn account. So she cancels the damn thing. In all it took 30 mins of being on the phone to cancel the membership that I didn't know I had. Fan-fucking-tastic.

I had a similar issue with a credit protection thing from capitol one, it's supposed to pay your credit card bill if you are out of work or whatever but they always seem to find a reason that you are not eligible, I called to cancel it and it was the same thing, they keep you on the phone going on with offers and trying to convince you not to cancel until you finally snap and threaten to burn them in their sleep.

FYI a credit check actually hurts your credit rating

Well, it leaves a mark on your credit but doesn't mean it hurts it. If you apply for 12 credit cards/loans in a year then that amount of checks on your credit would likely be seen as a negative but they have no actual impact on your score. Also, marks from credit checks can be removed.
