Clinton thinks govt. should make $5k "Baby Bond" (

Am I the only one that thinks that this is insane?. I don't believe that Clinton can honestly believe this is a good idea, I think she's riding it for publicity (see the last paragraph of the article).

To me, it sounds like she's trying to appeal to the poor, saying that rich people "get to have all kinds of tax incentives to save, but most people can't afford to do that."

Another democrat had this to say:
"I think it's a wonderful idea," said Rep. Stephanie Stubbs Jones, an Ohio Democrat who attended the event and has already endorsed Clinton. "Every child born in the United States today owes $27,000 on the national debt, why not let them come get $5,000 to grow until their 18?"

I'm not saying it's a bad idea to have some sort of investment by parents for their children. However, the idea is fundamentally flawed. 4 million children a year are already born in the US X $5,000 kids = $20 Billion more in taxes. With this sort of incentive, multiplied by our current illegal immigration problem, that number would skyrocket.

The other problem I have with the idea is that the money isn't magic, it has to come from somewhere. If each new child gets $5,000 from the government at birth, they will NOT be giving $5,000 back for the owed national debt- they will be adding to it.

Am I the only one that thinks there is no way this can work?

Idealistically, this is a wonderful idea. If we had billions of dollars to just throw away free willy nilly, then go for it. But in my opinion, this is a bunch of horse hockey! The Federal Government should do only three things. Deliver my mail, protect my borders and leave me the fuck alone. Any use of money or law that restricts my freedoms is an abuse of power and this takes the fruit cake.

I agree 100%, the federal government is way out of control, the problem is that too many people want the dependence, they want the hand outs and politicians of course want people to be dependent on government so they can have more control. Any type of welfare assistance should be in the hands of state and local agencies, no one is in a better position to know what your neighbors need and help provide it than you are.

Amen to that brother. I actually voted a Democrat for Governor for this very reason. Democrats are better at Domestic policy and Republicans tend to focus on foreign affairs, which is where the US Govt should be looking.

BUT at age 18 they will spend it thus it will go into the economy. Plus if it gets interest it will be a investment by US Gov?

The Clinton's are EVIL, Bill Clinton signing the Fair Trade Act opening up trade with China is one of the reason China is such a threat. Why ...well every shirt and pair of shoes you buy that is made in China that money goes to the government. That money helps to fund R&D for their military. I say spend more on our military budget!!!! we are gonna need it somewhere down the road. China plays games with their money in their markets they suppress the Yen to help our economy and themselves as well. Our trade deficit with China is staggering, they know it and in their minds I'm sure they would love to see a future that is POST America. Clinton's are directly tied to China and they are EVIL.

I agree with Gunther too.
