I would make an iffy American (or, "my week in vegas)

Postby Damaen » Wed Oct 29, 2008 8:46 pm

this forum is dead! which makes my daily check-in sorta dull. So you all get some rambling from me today! yay?

So last week i was in vegas for 6 days... getting... married. crazy, right? i know. it was my first actual "trip" ever, which is sad, becuase i am 27. Anyway, some things confuse me:

Smoking indoors. Is this allowed everywhere? In vancouve, BC, you arent allowed to smoke indoors (public areas) or within 5 feet of the doors or any air vents (intake). its draconian but its better if you dont smoke. Like drinking outdoors, which i understand is only a vegas thing, is smoking anywhere you fucking please vegas-specific as well? ugh.

Fat people are scary. Canada has its tubby people but damn. Ive never seen the heavy end of the scale like i did in vegas. 400 pounders is not an exagertaion. heavier, maybe. people i have just never seen before.

Guns and the people who peddle them are scarier than fat people. I went to the firearms and recreation center - firearms being the only recreation they offer - which was AWSOME. Im canadian, so ive never so much as held an actual gun. This small store featured one of thes .50 cal sniper rifes, an ENTIRE WALL of different m4 rifles, and the usual bizzare assortment of guns. Kinda cool. But the 3 guys working there were shades of crazy, and all wore white shirts with OBAMA crossed out on them. having views? cool. But i am canadian. Ranting and convincing people who cant vote comes across as psychotic.

Back to Scary guns... I paid more than i thought i would have to choose a pistol and machine gun, each had 2 clips for me. My friend chose just a Grease Gun, which i thought was nostalgic of him, and i chose some manner of springfield 9mm pistol and, because its awsome, the mp5. let me reiterate: THE mp5 IS A SCARY SCARY WEAPON. 3 shot bursts bled ammo and really, movies did not prepare me for the SHEER NOISE of it. no recoil, no weight, just noise. Now i am afraid of guns, seeing as i now know what they can do. SO much fun!

In canada, if people stood on street corners in groups of 4 and snapped *flick flick flick* their little porno/call-girl cards in the face of everyone that passed by, they would get shot. repeatidly. Just ebcause i have never held a gun dosent mean we dont have them! Its... i cant even describe how fucked up a practice that is.

thats all i got. i had ot share.

GUNTHER/GUN ENTHUSIAST EDIT ---

Tell me, and i dont know if springfield is right (im sure it is) or if they habe a wide array of 9mm pistols, but what kind of fucking pistol jams 3 times on 2 clips? 3 times the spent casing failed to eject properly, getting caught in the slide, half in and half out. is this normal, or did they give me a poorly maintained pos?

and he said i couldnt handle any of the models of uzi because i hadnt shot before. lame!

So you got married because you WENT to Vegas, or you got married IN Vegas?

As for fat people... Just... Ummm... Try not to get pulled into orbit!

On a totally unrelated note, I just felt I had to post this:

Congratulations Damaen!! woo hoo

I have never been to Vegas, but I am told it is a small world all its own. I can comment on each of the amazing topics you have commented on.

Fat People...They are every where in the US. I think it began with the introduction of Corn Syrup into our diet in 1979. Prior to that time the obesity rate wasn't as bad. But Corn Syrup hasn't fallen into the American microscope like so many other more volatile topics like Paris Hilton, the Economy or the Nation Building Operation in Iraq. Surprisingly the "real" war in Afghanistan is barely mentioned.

Gun dealers and Circus people are scary. But not all, you must have hit a gene pool somewhere. Although many of them do have Right Wing views like myself. Many Americans appreciate our right to own firearms. I actually own an AR-15 which looks a lot like those M4 Carbines you were oggling only longer.

The MP5 is a very lightweight and useful little tool. Yes it is loud, it is 9mm. that is a much larger caliber than a 5.56mm. My pistol of preference is either a S&W .357 or .40 Caliber. Those Springfield 9's do jam too frequently; they're crap.

The movies could never prepare a person for firearms. You would need to wear hearing protection to stand the volume. I've been in some firefights using blanks, which is just a tad quieter than live rounds, but still VERY VERY Loud. You do get accustomed to the noise after awhile. Yelling in a firefight is required to communicate. That and hand & arm signals.

Anyway, congratulations on getting married. Now go out and buy an Uzi or an Ingram MAC-10. :D

PS: I would have gone for the "vintage" M3/M3A1 as well. that's a .45 calliber. Much louder than that puny 9mm you had. lol

Ear muffs is the correct term. I know what comes to mind is fuzzy pink ear warmers but the hearing protection is know as ear muffs.

Congrats on the Marriage. I love guns I have personally held and shot a thompson machine gun, Uzi, AK-47, M1911, Chineese SKS (kinda like the AK) too many shotguns to count but my faorite shot gun is the 10 guage talk about a cannon whoahh 10 gauge is fun!!! and other various high powered rifles. Owning guns is an American right it's just all the nuts that make gun owning frowned upon.
