Need a new video card.

A place to just hang out.

Need a new video card.

Postby Tackalt » Thu Apr 28, 2005 7:50 pm

I've been searching around newegg.com lately because I recently turned up my resolution on WoW..big mistake. Lol, Now I can't go back to that fuzzy 800 x 600 res and I need to get a video card upgrade to continue FRAPing guild events.

I am wondering if this video card will work with my system:

Here is a pic of my DxDiag..if that's of any use for anything.

Opinions, please.

I've heard problems with the sapphire overheating quite a bit, I'm sure Socco might know. I'd go with a 128 just because it's cheaper and 256 is somewhat unnecessary for WoW, but nice to have. :D

Otherwise good pick.

Oh and for the love humanity make sure you have a powerful enough power supply. I think the 9800 requires a 430watt power supply.

TBH tack just come into TS with either me or red we can talk about your prob.I really don't understand the problem?did your card just stop working?if not,its most likely driver related.also do u lag in WoW,because i see you have just 512 megs of ram.also for 200$ i would suggest the 6600GT 256 meg card.its faster in 75% of games out there than the 9800pro.I will find u some bench's.also that dx thing is the wrong page, that one is just the general info of your system.

I use Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS
this card works verywell. There is a platinum version that has some addons. I believe you can connect it to an HD television or something.

I don't quite now about sapphire, but the official (ATI/NVIDIA) card may not be the best. I got a decent PNY card and it came with a much better than ATI fan, and heatsinks for the memory. You might be able to tell, I'm an "attention-to-details" guy.
Get it down to one card (e.x. Nvidia 5700 LE). With that, you can find the best manufacturer if you really want to get picky. I have a 2.5 GHZ (non Hyper Threaded) intel w/ 512 MB, and the card I put in was a 128MB PNY GeForce FX 5700 LE, and that works really well, except it lags a bit in IF, but that is the RAM, not the graphics card.
