Try reading some John Ringo and David Weber books. The best military SF out there, they really know their stuff. For ground combat read Ringo, for space/navy and some ground mixed in read Weber. For Gunther's sake I'll just say that Ringo spent some time in the Airborne if that'll make you feel better about trying to read his books.
Wheel of time was okay. But if your into fantasy books, pick up There Will Be Dragons by John Ringo. It has some high tech involved but just read through it all and continue with the series. It'll get to fantasy like things, mostly its old military like things though.Along with developing an old society mixed with Dwarves/elves, etc. etc. while trying to defend against rampaging orcs/mutated humans(which really is what all the other "races" are) fanatics...
I love Ringo. And i have beta to blame for it.
When i was reading Will be Dragons, i wasn't really sure if i'd like it or not. By the end though, i was wanting more.
Also, the MArch up Country series is just plain gold. Very good read.
Back on topic:
I just got back from seeing Land of the dead. I was expecting another Zombie flick, and got one. It was pretty good for zombie movie standards. However, i expected just a little for for the "End" of this particular series.
Expect another sequal. Not bad in my books, but nothing to get over excited about.
7.45/10 is my rating.
Nothing like reading the failures and dumb luck successes of Militarys across the globe
