I need a new Computer

Postby Valkyrie » Thu Jun 23, 2005 3:46 pm

For about 3 years I have had a 1.3 ghz computer, which I have upgraded with 1gb memory which is about all I have done with it, GeForce4 T14200 video card also ancient now, also doesnt have decent hard drive space compared with some of the newer computeres just 74gb while I have seen some with twice that many and more. I need to get a new computer which can run games smoothly for maybe about 800 American. Suggestions?

The problem with an 800.00 computer is they tend to not be very upgradable. For instance, an 800.00 Dell probably wont hold 1gb of ram, or have an agp slot, probably integrated sound and/or video, insufficient power supply and only 2 or 3 pci slots. They also tend to use alot of propritary componants so the bits you can upgrade you have to get from them. That's not to say you couldn't buy 800.00 worth of componants and build something pretty decent yourself though.

You can buy a good motherboard/cpu and you could get some nice videocard (ATI > nVidia) a stronger PSU, and another HDD. You could get all of that for less than 800.

BTW, Dells suck.

Get all from Newegg for less than 800 bucks.

That's about what I spent, then bought a very nice 19" viewsonic for 245.00, most everything I got from newegg, not always the very lowest price but pretty close and always the best service.

With $800. Bucks, that can get you a Fat computer. You have a monitor so your all set. New egg is the place to go. I bet if you ask real nice Jedi or Redwarrior could put the links up for each item you need. I know I built mine back in October for around $600. Thanks to New egg http://www.fatwallet.com/ Is another great spot. You should do well with $800

Heres what I would buy for 800$.I wont show you benchmarks, since i assume you wouldn't know much about hardware/numbers.Also it would be good to know What speed ram?PC 2100,2700,3200

CPU Athlon 64 3000+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103537 This would be atleast 100% faster than your 1.3ghz.which I assume is a AMD cpu?

Nvidia 6600GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130220 I stand behind this card its about 20-30% faster than the last gen fastest card 9800Pro.

Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813130491 Since you dont OC its a soild brand.

Ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820146883 OCZ is very trustworthy.Ram is dirt cheap right!!Damn I need to buy some myself.

Thats 495.99$ Also I assume you could sell your old stuff to help with the new PC's cost.300$ left for more stuff. You want a new hard drive?DVD-RW drive? That would be maybe 200$ more.Although if you cannot build a PC.then your fooked.....Just kidding.Ill search for a On line builder to help you. Also I may be interested in buying your Mobo,Card,CPU.
If Thats all you need to have a new PC,But want to spen the last 300$ then i could recommend faster parts.
