Hi Everyone,

I wanted to write and let you know that this will be my last official post to these forums. Voluntarily, I am leaving the PlanetSide development team. Really, this process started with my vacation some weeks ago and my apologies that I wasn’t clearer about what was going on at the time. Idealistically, I had hoped that some time off would allow me some perspective and enable me to dig back in to working on PlanetSide, but it hasn’t.

You see, as a player and then as a developer on PlanetSide I’ve been very involved with and very passionate about, the game. Like many of you, I was captivated by the possibilities and potential the game had, but, through so many different factors and issues, never seemed to quite fulfill them. Because of that, I have a hard time working in the current alignment. I don’t hold any ill will to SOE management. The games fate was largely decided back in May of 2003 when it launched, as like so many things in life, you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

There are still countless more hours of fun and action within PlanetSide. Enrico_Pallazzo and team have some good things lined up and I encourage you to give them your support and encouragement. Most of all, keep having fun! To all of the PlanetSide fans, supporters and community, I have always been impressed by your own involvement and dedication. I thank you for your previous support and wish you all the best for the future.

Very truly yours,
Alex “Samhayne” von Minden

I've never been around for the demise of a game. This should be interesting.

I don't know if this is the demise of PS, but who knows.
Maybe something good can come of this. Maybe, like i've always hoped and said, other developmet teams will learn from PlanetSide and take what was learned to put into another game.

They took out this paragraph:

So what, we can't admit that the game has problems now? Perhaps things would be better if they got over that little attitude.

Hopefully it stays alive as long as our PS gang wants to play it. I have to say that BFRs were the nail in the coffin for many. I still remember playing the demo for the first time and saying WoW I need to play this game. The real thing that turned me off was the fact that every patch held very little real improvements and worse performance than the previous. I started playing PS with a so-so computer and had good performance within six months it was unplayable without a upgrade.

But like I said hopefully it stays alive as long as enforcers want to play it.
