CE FTW

Postby redwarrior666 » Thu Jan 19, 2006 5:14 pm

One day this last week I got over 150 VS kills off of spits and mines. Spits should almost always be placed in trees for a surprise. If you want more kills use CE. This is for any of the new guys who actually read these forums. I thought I would post this becuase I saw some newbies complaining about thier K/D, I tried to tell them get CE, you don't have to have a great killer gaming rig or massive frame rate to lay CE, and you can get a boatload of kills. My K/D has been really positive on the kill side since I started using CE again infact it averages 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 almost everytime I play.

CE is an awesome cert that everyone should have.
Laying CE is made much easier if you have an AMS cert tho. This way you can just go park your AMS, and not worry about needing to run back and get more mines.
I don't have CE atm, but i am about to re-pick it up.
Gunther has the reputation for being one of the all time great CEers. He's got to have some tips. 8)

Yeah, and not only can you get some easy kills with CE, but they are often GOOD kills exp wise -> tanks, deli's, etc. With good placement you can do really well. If you're at a relatively stable battle pay attention to where the enemy vehicles like to make their runs and mine it up (most drivers are fairly predictable; they remember, 'oh, that area is safe, I'll keep doing that'. Make them pay

CE is one of my favorites. I labeled that as one of my "staple" certs. I used to practice several elaborate "Spit boxes" and other plans. Please do not forgot to use the sensors. I liked to use the map screen zoomed in to place the sensors. If you didn't realize they have a much larger coverage area that you may think and looking at a zoomed in map tells you just how large it is. I allowed a bit of overlap--maybe 20-35% but you don't want two covering the same area completely.

I looked at Spitfires similar to wall turrets but it you place them close to one another in masse they can provide supporting fires to each other.

I killed a Magrider with spits and mines once. I set up a "Spit Box" filled with mines. the lay of the land was such that by keeping the mines on the high ground, they formed an L-shape. The Magrider attempted to come up the hill along the path of least resistance which is in the "V" of the L. Naturally there were at least three maybe four spits firing on him. He drove at one spit that was in tight with a tree. the tree stopped him but he couldn't touch the Spit. He backed up and ran into a mine. This whole time the spits are pouring into him and he can't traverse to get them all. I was out of small arms fire and came running over to check it out. I shot it a few times with my Cycler and it blew up. :)

Tip: Place a mine on the ground and then a sensor over it. It will work--might be right next to it, can't remember exactly. the tank driver only sees the sensor and might driver over it thinking he is taking out your eyes. You may not kill him but you will reduce him to 30-50% of damage. :)

It is best to cover "minefields" with some Direct Firing weapon like a cycler, Wall Mount, Mosquito, Prowler or what have you. Allow the enemy to take damage from the minefield, you don't want him to miss it. If you just lay a minefield and forget it, then it is being used only to Harrass and there is nothing wrong with that but it doesn't guarantee a kill. I liked setting up mines all around the back door in case of Galaxy Drops. Also a spit inside the alcove where the back door was to try to kill a cloaker or someone hacking the back door.

CE is something that can be used in almost every application of PS. Besides, using it as a defensive weapon it can be used very effictively as an offensive weapon. The most fun is killing with boomers, especially when you act like you are running from someone and then when they pop around the corner you just went around, and boom toasted. (on a side note when you die like this you feel like the biggest idiot to ever reside on Auraxis). CE is also good for snipers, you can set up a little perimeter to keep infies from getting near you. It also does wonders for your k/d if your support spec'd.
