My friend called me today and asked me to be an assistant coach for a Babe Ruth (jr high) baseball team. I didn't play baseball in H.S. and haven't really played since I was in jr. high (10 years ago). My friend, the head coach, also hasn't played since jr. high (13 years for him). So I feel that we are in trouble. The only reason we are doing it is because NOBODY else would coach and they were going to cancel the kids season. I just found this out today and the first practice is tomorrow. What have I gotten myself into?

Go for it! I hope I get the opportunity to do this with my own children--boys and/or girls. Just be an adult and a mentor to them. Listen to your friend/head coach and reiterate/support what he says. But above all, HAVE FUN!!!

I used to coach a T-Ball team. I kinda miss it. It was more a challenge to keep them somewhat focused than to teach baseball skills. I had one that all he wanted to do was sit in the outfield and use stuff he found there to build stuff.
good times.
