Texas vs. OSU

Postby roadrunner » Fri Sep 08, 2006 10:59 am

Does NCAA football get any better than this? Week two and maybe one of the best matchups of the year.

Yes I am a biased OSU fan :D

[smilie=armata_pdt_33.gif] to ESPN's love affair and yearly overhype of ND.

I dislike OSU but hate Texas and Michigan so I give a reluctant go bucks (would it be possible for both teams to lose). Notre Dame is overrated but they are still very good as long as the offense shows up this week they win over Penn St.

<----ND fan.

Warning warning warning… entering rant zone.

/rant on

I actually have a pretty strong dislike for ND which has almost nothing to do with the team itself. I am tired of the media stuffing certain teams down our throats like ND, Cowboys, Yankees, Duke, and the Lakers. They give the impression that teams like these are the reason the respective sport flourish and are diminished when they are not thriving.

The problem is worse in the college world as this love translates to high preseason ranking year after year regardless of how good the team actually is. With the way NCAA football works it is a great benefit to be ranked high if you want a chance at the title game. So teams who are more worthy get the shaft to make room for media favorites. I have many other issues with the BCS system but I will save that rant for another thread.

As for ND, when I said almost I am put off with the fact that they keep throwing “our high academic standards keep us from getting some of the top prospects” out there when they have bad seasons. I applaud them for having high standards but when it is used as an reoccurring excuse I have a different view of it.

GO Irish, and it's been a long time since we have had a good decent team. But I feel the same way about Michigan and Ohio State on being over rated. And yes your dead on right about the Lakers, Yankees, and so on and so on. Just stop hateing on the one good independent team that wont join the big ten. They don't want to share there toys and money with others and they shouldn't have too. So Go Irish!!!!! And go Longhorns!!!!

Ok here I go...

I went to Illinois, therefore, it is absolutely impossible for me to be a fan of Michigan (anyone who goes to a Big Ten school other than Michigan will probably agree with this.) That said I will always root for the Big Ten team, Michigan excluded of course, and being a non-catholic, non-mic  from the midwest I can't stand ND either. Of course my dislike for UofM and ND has nothing to do with media hype it has to do with the smuggness that both the schools seem to have attached to them.

A further point of interest. I just moved to Lansing, Im debating becoming an MSU fan while Im here. I hate to be a fare weather fan but Illinois has been so disappointing the last few years. Anyway, I'm going to be making my way over to Detroit very soon Road, better keep your doors locked.

ND blasted Penn St.

The game was actually a lot worse than the final score, ND put their 2nd team in early.

OSU is leading Texas 7-0 atm but it's still 2nd quarter.

Nice win by OSU. Looks like ND will move up in the polls. I am still not convinced ND is for real as Penn State seems to underperform a lot when they play outside of happy valley.

Penn St. is not a top 25 team. The fact that ND beat them badly was about 3/5 bad Penn St. and 2/5 good Irish. The upside for ND is that it is still a win big win over a ranked team giving some momentum into Mich. I think ND offense shows up again and ND gets the win by about 10 points.
