The Red Sox bid $42 million

Postby roadrunner » Tue Nov 14, 2006 7:35 pm

just to negotiate with pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka. That is more than they offered Damon in a contract.

Does anyone else see anything wrong with this?

Just think if the big markets actually spent all of their dough with just a little bit of intelligence the mid/small would never have a chance.

The article I read said they paid $51 Million to negotiate with him. Theo Epstein says he is excited to have this opportunity to get the Japanese Pitcher and that they've been watching him for quite some time now. Apparently this was a blind bidding process and Bosox was the higheste bidder. Another team involved had this to say:
"We'll congratulate the winner and move on," New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Tuesday afternoon.

a useless team at that and a total waste of cash if you ask me.

I would just like to say that from this point on no Red Sox fan ever, EVER has the right to talk about the Yankees spending too much money. With a three year contract this could cost the sox over $30 million per year. That said, while Matsuzaka could be a great major leaguer, he is going to cost the Sox a ton and may impact what players they will be able sign in the coming years.

Larry Lucchino is a dick.
Theo Epstein is squared away, but Lucchino makes bad decisions left and right.

This just proves my point that baseball (at the pro level) is a stupid sport.
