The Patriots victory over Buffalo was only one aspect of the equation. The outcome of the Ravens and Dolphins games determined if they advance. If Miami lost to the New York Jets, then New England would have been AFC East Division Champions. If the Dolphins won and Baltimore lost, the Patriots would enter the post season as a Wild Card Team.

With wins by both the Ravens and Miami, New England’s season is over.

Miami 24
New York 17

Baltimore 27
Jacksonville 7

It was a close race in the AFC East. The Division Champions are based on Overall Records. In the case of a tie, Division Records are looked at. In the case of both being a tie, then the Conference record is looked at. Since the Baltimore Ravens are 8-4 in the AFC North and the Pats are only 7-5, the Ravens get the Wild Card spot.

Record Recap:
Miami Dolphins Overall: 11- 5 Div: 4-2 AFC: 8-4 .
New England Patriots Overall: 11-5 Div: 4-2 AFC: 7-5
New York Jets Overall: 9-7 Div: 4-2 AFC: 7-5
Buffalo Bills Overall: 7-9 Div: 0-6 AFC: 5-7
