The very first fantasy football league was founded by Bill Winkenbach, part-owner of the Oakland Raiders, and four other colleagues on a business trip in 1962. Originally called the GOPPPL (Greater Oakland Professional Pigskin Procrastinators League), it had eight teams and paid out after every score.
