Computer Nerds Unite!!!

Postby Rangerr » Fri Jun 02, 2006 3:27 pm

I am moving and I have to buy a computer. I don't have the time to deal with it atm and even if I did, I'm not much on knowing what I need or don't need. So if someone would like to come up with something for me that would be great. I would like something that can handle Huxley or something of that nature. I don't need an amazing comp, I just need something that I can game a little on. And I would like to spend less than say $750 if that's at all possible. Thanks ahead of time for any and all help. :)

EDIT: Desktop not labtop. :D

I threw this together pretty quick.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827152059

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811164040

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822144415

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813157081

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130283

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817148027

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145440

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103533

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6837102059

Total is $750.91

I know, I'm a failure at keeping it less than $750.00, but I'll send you the extra $0.91 if you really need it. Do you accept PayPal? And heck, this is Newegg.com we're talking about, they slash prices daily.

Even cheaper if you already have a harddrive, a copy of Windows (you could always "buy it" for free *wink wink*), and a CD/DVD drive that you could all easily transfer from an older computer. And I would suggest that you buy a monitor at a store so that you can easily return it if you have dead pixels.

I reentered these items into Newegg's shopping card. The price for this computer dropped from $750 to $715. $35 difference, pretty nice if you ask me. I <3 Newegg.

Yeah, I wouldn't have the time to actually put one together, so I went to this local maker and told him what I wanted and what I wanted to pay. Sorry for troubling you ( I really do feel bad). I just picked it up yesterday and had enough time to hook it up and realize that my old windows xp copy is from dell and you can only install it on a dell. (how fucked up is that). So I went and bought what I thought was windows XP home edition, but I failed to notice the small print in the corner that says upgrade from Windows 98. So that won't work either and I can't take the damn thing back cause it's opened software. Sometimes I feel like maybe my parents built my swingset next to a wall. :gurn:

No need to say sorry, I love building computers on Newegg. $700 for the computer I made is a rather kick-ass deal, I might make it myself and try selling it on eBay or locally.

Don't even bother to try to return it. What MS doesn't tell you is that you can insert any old disc to upgrade. Try using the one from your dell and if that doesn't work download a copy of 98 from the Pirate Bay. You can say "Oh, might as well pirate XP then, right?" Wrong. The XP install can't tell if the 98 is pirated but with Windows Genuinely Annoying (a.k.a "Advantage") it will nag you nonstop. It's open already, right?...

Also, if you have any copy 98 or later lying around it should work. If you don't have it installed on the HD it will ask for a disk. You can do a clean install this way.

Now, depending on where you live, this may be illegal based on local, national, international and other applicable laws. I advise you to check the legality in your locality and cannot accept responsibility for any legal issues you may encounter.

That said...
