help (new comp) (socco! floob?)

Postby Damaen » Tue Jan 09, 2007 1:42 am

Building a relativily bare-bones comp for a friend. he is going to do his business on it (graphics), he'll probably want to play games at some point, wow if i can get him hooked, you know. He dosent need to rock like 90fps or anything stupid. id have forced him into some obscene stuff but he just has a kid and his priorties are all fucked up. Can anyone critique this? basically im never sure if my shit will even crate a fully functional computer. Socket types, ram, etc, whatever.
mobos scare the fuck out me

If his business is graphics you may want to add another gig of ram.

Rhonin is right; if this computer is being used for buisness graphics work, 2GB would almost definitely give a huge performance boost.

WD WD1600JB 160GB 8MB IDE

With HDs as big as they are, I'd up the capacity to at least 250GB. You don't realize how quickly a 160GB drive fills until it's in your computer ;)

Other than my personal crusade against WD (<-- Seagate guy), and possibly adding more ram, this looks good to go :D

I gotta agree here, Photoshop LOVES ram. Anytime I've taken care of a graphic artist that complains about their PC being slow all I had to do was add ram.
Also get more HD, professional graphics files are huge.

Yea, a second HD just for storage would be very handy, especially if he does any for print work because the files will be much much bigger than for web stuff.

i'll suggest more ram, as well as the HD, but his graphics job is a 'second career' home businees thing and im not sure how good he is or how much he needs it. im sure a new HP would be fine for him, i just refuseto let him. Plus, living a few houses down from me means he'll want to play wow at any rate, at some point.

thanks guys!

oh, floobie, hit the KG forums and talk to me about ram. Or get on my vent. Im going to start my new comp and i dont want to buy some shit ram and be unhappy inside.
