buying monitors

Postby Damaen » Sun Nov 25, 2007 7:45 pm

i have 2 17" crts ( a vaio and a viewsonic from our PS hayday) and its time i upgrade to 2 identical lcds. but im not sure what is good for gaming or what some of the specs mean.

-1680x1040 or 1440x1050?
-i dont even know what the ratio thing means. 800:1? 500:1? that dosent make any sense.
-the lower the response time the better/less ghosting, right? so 8ms is ok, but 5ms is better?

i hate buying things i never shop for. i'd love to find a great viewsonic lcd around 17-21". i know you guys are knee deep in this shit so here i am. again. lol i r in yur hed, steelin yur techs. ahem.

oh, if it matters, i have an 8800gtx so im good that way. never had a problem with any game on one monitor and whatever on the other (usually several chat programs, vent, winamp, irc, etc etc), and i think i want widescreens.

thanks guys. i appreciate it.

How much do you have to work with?

I use 1920x1200

The 800:1 and the 500:1 number is contrast ratio always go for the higher number. It will make your blacks darker and that’s what gives you all of them colors. Like I always say Higher the better.

And yes go from the lower response time, less ghosting was right on.

And yes you must buy a wide screen, if you do only one thing right get a wide screen.

im looking to spend around 250 per.

ViewSonic 20" VA2026w 1680 x 1050 widescreen 300 cd/m2 1000:1, 2000:1 (dynamic) 5 ms DVI-D, VGA black, silver #4538

that would be supreme, right? i just dont understand why more expensive ones are 800:1 and this is 1 or 2000. its only 229$. so confused. no idea what dynamic implies, or the cd/m2.

Viewsonic 22" VX2235WM SL/BK 1680x1050 700:1 5ms w/SPK DVI Widescreen LCD
SKU: LCD-V-VX2235Manufacturer:Viewsonic

Viewsonic 22" VA2226w 1680 x 1050 widescreen 300 cd/m2 1000:1, 2000:1 (dynamic) 5 ms DVI-D, VGA black, silver
SKU: LCD-V-VA2226WManufacturer:Viewsonic

so many options, and imjust not sure of the differences.
