I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 and it runs like a dream. For gaming I haven't had any issues.

Of course, it does take 2GB doing basic tasks (outlook, firefox), so it'd be a poor choice for an old PC. But new DDR2-800 is $80/4GB, so it's a non issue. I haven't had any driver issues with my hardware either.

On that note, the ATI Catalyst x64 drivers are rock solid, as are the Giga-byte x64 drivers for my mobo.

SP1 should be great though, although I'm pissed about the fact that it can't be slipstreamed. (For those non-techies out there, it's taking your old CD and making a new CDR with the service pack on it. It saves time on reinstalls, and since the updated files are integrated, it cuts down on a lot of bugs when you update service packs within Windows. It's legal, and supported with Windows XP, but not Vista SP1.)

Hey, if you have an MSDN subscription, a TechNet plus subscription, or want to spend 5 minutes making an free OEM account with zero verification, you can get Vista SP1 now. I'm running it on x64 and it seems noticeably improved stability wise to me, and some control panel tools and other system stuff have been massively improved in response time.

Well, I'm back to enjoying SP1 (my new 500GB 7200.11 Seagate decided to oddly die after 2 months of use, so I had to replace the drive...I'll warranty it and put the new drive I get in a few weeks in a different PC), everything is running smoothly.

Are you running into any issues? I haven't found anything so far :)

Only issue is sometime programs still crash with Com Surrogate error... but other than that smooth sailing and drive to driver and usb to drive file transfers are much much faster.

Older versions of Nero and certain codec packs cause that error.

Try the steps here. Hopefully that will help you out.
