Graphic card question

Postby rhonnin » Thu Jan 22, 2009 12:50 am

So I installed the new mobo in my machine and everything seemed to be working fine, had xp installing on a new HD when the monitor started going all wonky, moments later the system shut down.
I opened the case and it seemed hot so I figured I had missed a spot with the thermal grease or something, reapplied and started back up, I see a flash and smell ozone as my graphics card exploded. What are the chances the agp slot survived and how can I find out?
I put an old card in and got no response from the monitor but the old card is questionable at best.

I found an old card to test with and the slot survived, I picked up a radeon hd 2600 pro 512 mb card from someone and once I get my hands on a 6 pin power connector I'll be good to go. :)
