Trying to recover files

Postby rhonnin » Wed Apr 08, 2009 1:30 pm

So I am using a SATA HD now but I want to try and recover some files from my previous IDE drive, when I plug it in I get the "NTLDR" is missing error.
I assume it's because it's trying to boot from the IDE drive rather than the SATA but there's no OS on the IDE drive since it was just used for storage before.
I don't have it showing in the boot but it is being detected and the jumper on the drive is set as slave. I have it plugged into the secondary IDE slot on the same cable as the D drive.

Try swapping spots on the IDE cable. Sometimes it works that way ...though should not matter. Just something i seen in past. Double check Bios settings for hds as well.

The NTLDR means that it is trying to start from the drive and can't find the NT boot strapper. Go inot BIOS and make it so that your SATA drive is before your IDE drive in the boot order, then you will start from the SATA and should be able to access the old IDE drive like any other drive.
