It's not multiplayer so as long as you're only concerned with game play...

I'm not sure. I love both WoW and Oblivion but I think that they are too different to compare. One is an MMORPG and the other is a giant single-player rpg. On one, you game with friends, on the other, you quest by yourself.

I agree with LoneTerran. They're two totally different games and are very hard to compare. Will I quit WoW for Oblivion? No. I will still play WoW and eventually I'll play Oblivion to its end and get all the quests done that I want, then I'll stop for a while until they release the expansions to it.

The game is soo good though. It amazes me how well most quests are drawn out and use the game mechanics to their best potential.

I say yes but then again I did quit WoW and sell my character off so I may be biased.

Quests:
The quests are sooooo much better in development and diversity that it is like night and day compared to WoW. The story lines have more depth and they make use of the environment in a much better way. For example I had a quest where you had to enter someone’s dream to complete it. In WoW almost all the quests were kill x number of these or collect y number of an item(s). Oblivion has a few of those but even then there is a better story wrapped around the activity.

Another nice point is the randomness of how you get quests. Sometime people approach you and other times you approach them. It is not just a matter of looking for the stationary person with the ! above there head.

Character development:
With WoW you basically were locked into a certain type of character and gameplay with the only customization being talents. In oblivion there a ton of both skill and attributes associated to a toon so you can customize it to your hearts content. Anyone can cast spells, yield weapons, or wear the armor of their choice. It is up to the player to determine how to level his toon

Leveling system:
It is based on using you skills then killing mobs or completing quests. This provides a better immersion feeling.

Multiplayer:
Doesn’t not have it which is a big negative. I think an attempt to create a MMO out of it would hurt the game but some smaller scale multiplayer would add a lot.

Graphics:
Just amazing compared to WoW

Item diversification:
WoW may have a edge in terms of weapons and armor but oblivion has a ton more in all the other (books, plants, potions, …)

Environment:
I can take or steal most of the items you run across you can move stuff around by bumping into them. I like to trash a shop from time to time while the shopkeeper looks on. You can attack anyone if you so choose (just ask Lone). People have schedules and walk around talk to each other. These plus other items give a much better feeling of immersion than you will ever find in WoW.

So if you are looking for a very well done RPG it is a good choice but not as a replacement for a MMO.

I agree that even just 4 person co-op multiplay would be great in games like this.
