Red Ochestra: OSTFRONT 41-45

This is by far, one of, if not the, best FPS I have ever played. It plays like a BF conquest map capturing objectives, but there are no tickets, just a time limit (most servers are at 20 minutes) and the spawn point typically stays at a preset area, depends on what map you play.

Gunther, I know you would absolutely LOVE this game because it is the most realistic FPS's out there, and depends on skill and tactics to win/just survive for any reasonable amount of time. A top of the line computer won't help you here. No more of this bullshit about medics being able to heal fatal wounds in a second on the battlefield, actual, no medics or med packs at all. You won't find ammo lying around unless you pick it up off of a body. There is no HUD counter telling you how many bullets are left in your clip or how much health you have. Just a compass, how many mags you have left, and a little guy that lights up in red where you've been hit, which frankly is pretty useless sense one round (depending on size/velocity) in the right place will kill you, including torso. Bullets richet, or bounce however you spell it, tanks have AP/HE rounds, you can stand up and look around in the cupola of a tank or lock everything up. Rounds on a tank can be deflected depending on what angle the round hits at, and there is a hit detection system for all the vehicles as well. Took out a undamaged T-34 with one panzerfaust to the engine compartment. Also, there is no radar, just a map you can take out that only shows your position on the terrain and objectives, you don't even see where your teammates are.

The learning curve is VERY steep because of the nature of the game. Servers that are filled with n00bs is a comedy act as groups of people stumble around and brief noisy bloody firefights erupt. Servers with veterans have much more teamwork and ambushes set up everywhere, along with snipers, whether there's a sniper rifle or not. It also has a realistic trajectory on the rounds dropping as they go, for instance at about 300 yards aim for the shoulders. You can fix bayonets, you have to change out machine gun barrels and even work the bolt on your rifle. It is wonderful to play an fps where I don't have to worry about somebody being able to come into a room alone with an SMG and take out 6 guys. So unrealistic.

The only vices I've found on this is that maps are limited to 32, and I've had problems with ventrilo crashing while I'm playing it. However, it comes with a great voice comm. system that works wonderfully. OH YEAH, IT RUNS ON STEAM, THAT'S THE WORST PART, BUT IT'S WELL WORTH IT. Sorry, had to make sure everyone caught that.

It's only $20, I definitely suggest this as a buy.

I have it, LOVE it but haven't played in months because I didn't have anyone to play with.
Let me know when you're on and I'll definately run some maps with you.

PS. Why such little love for Steam? I haven't had any problems with it so I was just wondering.

I don't know, no reason really, just hate having extra programs run on my computer. :P

Anyways, I'm on ventrilo just about every night from 9 to 10:30. Usually on Red Orchestra. Hope to see you on Floobs. I should be on this Friday at about 10 or 10:30 onwards till 1 or 2. EST of course. Depends on whenever my date ends. Movie could end later than that, but I'll try to convince my fiance to go to an earlier show.

PS: Make sure you download the patch Floobie.

Yes it does Road. The multiplayer is really the only good part of the game, singleplayer sucks, its just used to learn the maps with a few bots thrown in that always know exactly where you are and pick you as target if they can get you 95% of the time, no matter how far away you are compared to another AI. Anyway, yes it does, just click on multiplayer and it has a list of things (news, internet, LAN, buddies) click on buddies and right click in the buddy list to add a buddy, it shows whether they're on or not, what server they're on, the map its playing, all the usual server info, and lets you join from that screen.

Eh, it depends on what you like to play. Honestly, its the way I prefer to play. If I can I turn it off for the majority of FPS's I play unless I'm going head to head against people because its too much of a disadvantage. I prefer realistic games over otherwise.

Ok, Beta. I just ordered it from Amazon.com. I should have it by the end of the week. Is there a single player mode so I can learn how to use the mechanics prior to entering a normal server? And not just a tutorial.

I was looking at some of the stuff on the forums of the site you linked. There was one guy there who wrote out an excellent post/thread on Tank tactics. That is a "must read" for anyone playing this game--especially with me. =D

Yes, there's a practice mode that includes a total of, 11 bots to add up to 12 players. They're excellent shots and instantly know where you are, but suck at tactics and strategy.

And yes, I read that tank topic earlier today as a matter of fact, already put it to good use in a massive tank engagement in the Battle of Arad, burning hulks everywhere, more people used armor on it than they usually do for some reason. Your talking about the Co-Operative Tanking Guide, right? Also, check out this topic on machine guns: http://www.redorchestragame.com/forum/s ... hp?t=11894
and check this one out dealing with tanks:

Here's a shooting guide for the K98K rifle, works pretty well with the other rifles too:

To study up on tanks and their weaknesses, dl the pictures on this page:
http://www.redorchestragame.com/index.p ... ectionid=2
It shows the stats for each tank, I found it today because I was a dumbass that didn't look at the DL section. Once again, put to good use today, er, yesterday now I suppose lol.

A bit of luck today, I have to tell the story. During the battle I was in a Panzerkampfwagen III, fired a round at the front of a T-34 it was deflected because my driver moved forward causing the round to just nick the turret. It slammed into the frontal armor of another T-34 was deflected again into the rear of the first T-34 causing a catastrophic explosion. It was so beautiful to see, well, atleast until the second T-34 fired, weak fucking armor.

Also, a bit of warning, one thing about the armor combat that's unrealistic is a tank that would have no chance of taking out other tanks, has chance for the simple fact, that on some maps the Russians couldn't win a battle than. This includes the Russian Infantry AT weapon the PTRD AT Rifle. However, this is supposed to change once they implement AT guns into the game.

I can't imagine a Pzkw III taking out a T-34. but if it is at close range and in the T-34's butt. You got extremely lucky. When I have more time, I will check out those links. I do prefer Infantry fights, but I'll crew up in a Pzkw III, IV, V or VI. Does the game replicate the larger Panther (V) and Tigers (VI)? how about the Soviet T-34/85? that was a badass Russian Tank too. The North Koreans used them against the US in the early 50's.
