I went to Best Buy yesterday to blow some Christmas gift cards I got. And since the store is so damned far away from my house, it sucks to have to go out there a lot.
I picked up Dark Star One. A game that's been out since...late 2006 and has been pretty under the radar. It was $30, and the best $30 I've spent in a good while.
It's a single-player space game, much like EVE online. It focuses much more on space combat, and is not restricted by training timers like in EVE. You have one ship that was left to you by your father after he died in a sabotage attack on his ship. You collect artifacts which are located in asteroids around the universe that literally MOLD with your ship to make it more powerful. The ship also grows graphically each upgrade. The enemies are level-based with your ship, so nothing is ever impossible to beat except maybe space stations.
I won't rant anymore about it, but if you're bored, you should check it out. It's not a resource hog, and it's fairly easy to get into. Joystick compatibility available, but using the mouse is much easier. Even for an original German game, the dialogue is flawless, except for the subtitles and speech differing just a tiny bit.
