good levels are on par with halo 1 for fun-ness, bad levels are dragon wars bad. I mean resident evil extinction bad.

4 player coop is fun though. all in all, C- cuz of the hype letdown.

I've NEVER understood the hype, praising magazine reviews, and cult following of Halo. It's a first person shooter with imprecise movement and aiming controls, standard weapons, and deathmatch multiplayer. What makes it SO great that makes it deserving of all the praise it gets? I really can't think of ANY reason I would want to play any of the halo games over Halflife 2 or Battlefield 2. Is it just that people that own a 360 don't own computers powerful enough to play the aforementioned games, and as thus, have yet to experience them? Because I certainly wouldn't think so highly of the Halo franchise after experiencing them.

Oh yeah, and forge. Apparently it's the best thing since sliced bread according to the reviews....and yet you can't edit the map itself. Unlimited replayability? Doubtful, when you're looking and running through the same terrain over and over again.

/agree with Vesian. Of course, I don't really care to go out and spend money on a console and games that I won't play. I only play PC games. A PC can do so much more than a console system. I don't need it.

I was reading a review yesterday and it said that there were only 9 levels and the single player was quite weak with really no surprises. They went on to give it a 9.5 out of 10. I couldn't care less about the entire Halo franchise.

Also consoles are good for sports games. I am going to buy a 360 soon just for NCAA Football 08. I am just waiting on a 300 dollar gift card to best buy.

I liked the first halo, but then stopped caring after that. Halo 2 was a fun LAN game, but short of that, I could care less. I'm sure Halo 3 is gonna be the same way.

From the little i played of it the other day, mostly just LAN stuff, seems to basically be Halo 1 in levels and 2 in the multiplayer with better graphics.
Problem has been the hype. And that is really mostly microsofts fault. The game would have had high expectations anyway, but microsoft was building this thing up for months trying to make it seem bigger then what it was going to be.
Nothing, in history, has ever lived up to any scale of hype. People get it in their heads something is going to be great with not knowing what they are actually looking forward too. This probably isn't even a bad game, it's just going to come off that way because people don't like that it didn't live up to what they wanted it to be, what they thought it would be in their heads.
Personally, i don't even own a console, but i know i'll play this and probably have some fun, just cause it's fun to play with friends in the same room and curse at them when something happens.

No game ever lives up to its. Ever. Not WoW, not StarCraft, StarCraft 2 will not live up to the hype. Same thing happens every single time a game comes out.

I love the Halo series. I really enjoy FPS's. The Halo series fits me well since I'm a Sci-Fi/Military buff. But....yeah, I believe the reason Halo 1 was such a success was because it was a sleeper hit. No one really expected it to go anywhere. But it did really well. So Microsoft/Bungie decided to release a sequel, Halo 2. Built it up way too much, way too friggin much. It was a good game, but it wasn't the best game ever created for a console, as many people will attest too.

Now onto Halo 3. Well, I had fun the first three levels. I really get into the story of Halo. But....my game keeps locking up, freezing before things load, audio continuing through freezing so the sound is way the hell off, especially in cut scenes. So that's a massive minus to me. I'm going to have to take it back and get a new copy...just like what I had to do with Halo 2.

Overall, I get the feeling that Microsoft/Bungie kind of screwed the single player campaign to focus more on the Xbox live aspect. Which really sucks because I cannot get Xbox Live. So thank you Microsoft for screwing the people who cannont get or afford to play online, because we get to experience about 1/4 of what the game is supposed to be.

But I will say this, 4 player support on Legendary campaign while in the same room as HAC, Beast, Shadow, beta, etc., is going to kick ass. Nothing is quite as fun as tearing ass with three of your friends, especially, like HAC said, I can yell at them for screwing up. 8)

I read that the limited and the legendary copies are scratched due to a clip that is too small in the box. They're saying the regular discs are fine but the specials are having problems. The disc i played was regular and i didn't have a problem with it.
Frankly, i dread the coming year. Gears 2...

Hype is hard...

Halo has a pretty good story, and protagonist that says enough but isn't fully developed. The first had a great campaign. The second one had a mediocre campaign. H3 is on the way (it doesn't matter, my repaired Xbox 360 is on the way back from the service center, which takes forever anyways)...

Halo gained massive appeal for a few reasons. First, it was very easy to pick up. The controls are pretty intuitive. Second, split screen is a lot of fun. When they implemented online, it was also done extremely well (despite the cheaters and the ten year olds constantly screaming "n****er" b/c they think it makes them cool). It was an extremely fun and easy for a lot of people to play. There are better games which cater to certain groups, but Halo is enjoyed as a generally fun game by a *lot* of people.

I'd say just about every game that receives an 1/8th of the hype or more of Halo 3 can't live up to it; it's just too much.
