Although I was not impressed with this game, the problem was that by the time it came out, I'd already been immersed in WoW and it just couldn't take me away from that one. I have no idea what a game must provide in order to steal customers away form WoW.

You can't really even compare DDO and WoW, their focus is completely different so the customer base I would think would have very little overlap.
They wanted to emulate the table top experience which I think they did a very good job of, I always felt it was missing some interaction somewhere though and that was what made it not worth a subscription to me. For free to play however I'll definitely reinstall it for an occasional dungeon crawl.

Yeah I enjoyed the dungeon crawls but not close to WoW style of gaming. I will install and run it again now it is free.
