My video card is dead...

The only game I want to play is SupCom... But when I start it, this is what I see:



Lots of little tiny black squares, and after about 10-15 seconds it turns into the following:






My video card is shot, isn't it? I guess I'll need to buy a new one, but I can't afford it, and I could switch out my card with an older one, but it won't help anything because it's too old to play any of my newer games...

Monkey, I'm betting on the GPU myself. I had similar issues on a previously great graphics card and eventually the card burned itself out. If it gets worse, or eventually starts happening in Windows, it's obvious.

If you could try another game and see similar results, or get a high (post your in game reading here) temperature rading from your GPU, then it's probably your GPU. Anything above 70C is too high. (Many people consider 60C too high, but with high end cards today, the ceiling is climbing).

Otherwise, get the latest ATI or Nvidia drivers for your graphics card.

Looks exactly like when my graphics card burnt out. When I booted up Battle for Middle earth, everything looked like picture number three, except it was writhing. No better word for it. I could still play 2d games (as you found out you could with starcraft) but anything that involved 3d? Screwed.

This happened to me when I played WoW abut 2 months ago, the more I moved around the worse it got, I found that if I tabbed out and tabbed back in the problem would fix itself, but then return about 10-15 minutes laters. I'm sorry to say I can't remmember what I did to fix it, but I think it was right before I bought a new Vid card. So the new card might have been my solution

Yea, my WoW was the same way, but in SupCom (what the screenshots are) it would make it WAYYYYY worse
