The President of the School and the local chief of Police are holding a press conference right now about it. The Police investigation suggests that there may have been more than one shooter but only one shooter was found dead at the scene. Also, the shooter did not get into a shootout with the police as earlier reported. He took his own life. There have been no details about his identity yet.
The Police chief mentioned that there were a total of 115 casualties which includes the 33 deaths that Fox news is reporting right now. The other 82 people were either shot by the gunman or jumped out of a 2nd floor window and sustained non-life threatening injuries.
After listening to this press conference, I am lead to believe that there may possibly be a second gunman that fled the campus or is hiding on campus. Scenes from the campus depict body armor clad Law Enforcement officers carrying assault rifles. That also suggests that they are still searching for a second gunman. Of course it is possible that there was only one and he is now dead. We won't know until after the police conclude their investigation.
Fox news mentioned that one of the students of VT was also a student at Columbine HS when the shooting occurred there several years ago. That student will require some serious therapy when this is concluded. This is a very tragic event. My prayers go out to all of the students, faculty and families affected by this asshole.
Witnesses report one shooter only, the police were searching for a second shooter just for safety (better to waste some police time then to end up with more victims).
With all that's happening right now, I'm pretty disgusted. All of the oppurtunists are up in arms.
The news has it plastered everywhere; online, "Watch Live!", etc. While it is the place of the news to cover current events, all of the networks are going at it like a dog at a bone.
Meanwhile,
Jack Thompson, an oppurtunistic asshole lawyer, is using the tradgedy in an attempt to further his career. I should be more civil in my language, but Jack was on the news immediately as a "School Shooting Expert" (yeah right!), and was saying how the kid played "Doom and Counter Strike: Half Life" (That's not my mistake; Jack thought HL and CS were one game). Never mind the fact that the police had yet to reveal the identity of the shooter and Jack had no evidence to support this (Jack is a lunatic, but he's dangerous b/c he's a lunatic that gets media coverage and following).
There are already politicians that
reportedly are using the incident to support antigun laws. Not much comment on this, b/c it is unverified.
Now, as far as the shooter himself (according to a victim, an Asian male in his twenties in a black leather jacket, a maroon cap, with a bulletproof vest and tons of magazines for his two semiautomatic 9mm pistols), he
planned it out. This wasn't a spur of the moment thing. He shot two victims at a residence hall and left quickly.
While this is speculation, the gunman distracted the police who swarmed the residence hall and left the engineering building open for attack. Whether this was unintentional or intentional has yet to be seen.
When the gunman arrived at the engineering hall hall, he chained the doors shut, went in, and lined the engineers up in some classrooms execution style. He also shot randomly in one classroom, and when the injured blocked the door when he returned, fired several rounds into the door. The shooter appeared to commit suicide by one of his pistols, although testing awaits.
Some emails were sent out, three with bomb threats, earlier this month. Some now suspect that the shooter himself may have sent the emails in a deliberate attempt to discover the initial time and the response time after one emergency of university and police personel.
What motive the shooter had is unknown... it's not known whether or not he was even a student, what (if anything) he had against engineers, or any motive at all.
It's extremely tragic, and I also feel for the many families stricken by this event...
