For a collector yes but it's also extremely expensive, you'll not likely find one for sale, it's usually something you have done yourself.
Exactly why are you looking for one anyway? What will it be used for? Is it just for the sake of having one, carrying, target/competitive shooting?

Self deffense mainly, for when I move out, and I figured I might as well make it look as scarey as possible. And to me not many more handguns are scarier than a big ass shiney 1911 .45. Also it wouldn't be a bad display piece either for when it's not being used.

For that purpose I would go with either a .40 Cal Nickel semi Auto. If you get the S&W version be aware the the extracted casings will fly up and to the rear striking you on the head when they come down. I used to carry one several years ago.

Take a look at the Glock 22,23 and 27 models. They are chambered for the .40 S&W round, don't have the ejection problems and come standard(22), compact(23) and sub-compact(27) versions.
My brother carries one as one of his off-duty weapons here in Philly.

As for self-defense if you want big and scary you'll stop carrying the gun after a short time since it becomes cumbersome and annoying. Not to mention the fact that you stick out like a sore thumb with a huge piece of iron strapped on.
The compact models are much more comfortable and just as effective. You just have to get used to how the weapon fires but you need to do that with ANY weapon you own.
As for home defense when you move out nothing beats a cheap ass break open 12 gauge shot gun. Or go pump if you have the cash. When someone hears the distinctive sound of a shotgun being pumped there is no way not to be scared. And they are a hell of a lot cheaper than a handgun and can be used to hunt, or my favorite trap shooting.

They make a wide variety of compact .45s now as well and the staggered magazines come in 10 round flavors.
I was never a fan of Glocks before because the balance on them feels odd to me due to the composite slide, when my friend was designing the sig we tried a variety of Glocks as part of his research and it totally changed my view on them.

Chrome Ick... stay away from chrome I have a WWII Colt 45 and I love it ...it packs a wallop and would probably pick a good size man up off the ground and knock him back a few feet if hit. I also have an Chinese SKS 7.62 which I really love.
