Blizzard Announces second Expansion

Postby PanzerFaust » Sat Aug 04, 2007 8:59 am

The Wrath of the Lich King, looks very cool. You can find the main site here: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath/

There's a thread on the official WoW forms with links to blizzcon movies showing content, which can be found here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/threa ... 6564&sid=1

Someone said in game this is coming out in three months. I didn't find that on the game Launcher or either of the links. I'm listening to YouTube right now. they haven't said that either. I just found the answer on YouTube. They are not announcing the release date yet. If you hear any release date, it is pure speculation on someone's part. Of course, maybe Blizzard has announced that, if so post the link here.

The new content does look fascinating. I'm now looking forward to this expansion.

New Content:
1. Level Cap raised to 80
2. New Class -- Death Knight which is kind of a cross between a warrior and a warlock similar to the Shadow Knight in EQ. Death Knights will be able to Tank with 2H weapons or dual wielding. They won't need shields. wears Plate armor. This is WoW's first Hero class. You can not start a Lv1 Death Knight. The ability to play Death Knight must be unlocked through a Lv80 quest chain similar to the Warlock Epic Mount Quest chain. Once the class is unlocked you will play as a Level to be determined. They have not determined what level the Death Knight will start at, they speculated around Lv55. Death Knights will have the ability to create Runes to imbue their weapon with these runes. The runes are similar to gems or enchants onto it to modify their weapon in a positive way.
3. Introducing Siege Weapons and Destructible environment. I'll have to level up my engineer to see about those siege weapons.
4. Inscription Profession which I understand to be an ability to write new spells. Not sure about that.
5. They are introducing New Creatures in the new Continent of NorthRend.
6. New Character Customization. You can change your character's hairstyles.

Zones of Northrend:
1. Howling Fjord at the East end of Northrend (Lv70-72)
2. Borean Tundra at the West end of Northrend (Lv70-72)
3. Grizzly Hills, just north of Howling Fjord (Lv72-74)
4. Dragonblight is in the center of Northrend along the south coast. (Lv??)
5. Dalaran will be moved from Alterac Mountains to the center of Northrend and become the Capital City of Northrend like Shattrath City. Dalaran will be a floating city accessible from the ground.
6. Lake Wintergrasp is a PvP zone just northeast of Borean Tundra and North by northwest of Dragonblight.
7. New Caverns of Time instance due out.
8. New Lv80 Raid zones are Top Secret right now. They are not mentioning those yet.

They didn't announce all the new zones. Just the ones I have listed above.

They have created two Lv70-72 zones on the new continent to avoid the crowding we experienced in Hellfire Peninsula.

I wonder if when you unlock the Death Knight, do you turn your Lv80 Warrior into a Lv55 Death Knight or do you start an entirely new character who is now a Lv55 Death Knight?

Also, Blizzard announced they would include a VOIP system into the game, so we won't have to spend money on Ventrilo and/or TeamSpeak servers.

they probably had a senior exec get a hands on with warhammer or AoC, then come back and say ok whip together something with some pvp in it.

fighting over 3 towers for +5% crap isn't gonna cut it anymore.

finally, after like 3 years, wow has some competition.

About Inscription, from what the people said on the video, it's less making new spells, more adding modifiers to current spells (the example they gave was to give fireball knockback, or extra damage, or increase it's DoT effect, etc).

P.S. about siege engines, I don't think it has anything to do with engineering, sounded more to me like vehicles you'd find laying around in an FPS than anything, but we'll see.

lol everyone's raid gear that they spent 100s of hours getting AGAIN will become obsolete just like that.

This is why I will never raid for gear.

Sounds like the way bard songs are done in Vanguard.
